Some of my favorite horror/weird fiction writers frequently use puppets, dolls and mannikins to conjure up the feeling of anthropomorphobical horror. One author who is a real (puppet-) master in weaving this theme into his fascinating stories of philosophical horror is Thomas Ligotti.
