Święto Kina Niemego (The Silent Film Festival) for the fifth time in Warsaw! How could I miss such a festivity. It has already become a tradition in my life to go there every year. This time I saw only two of the films, Balancoires (Noel Renard) and La Glace a trois faces (Jean Epstein), both of them accompanied by electro-psychedelic music from Scratch Massive. The films represent French avant-garde movement of the 1920's and I found them absolutely brilliant. Both of them were filmed in a very innovative and experimental way. I was mesmerized by Balancoires, which I found quite Ligottian. A pair of lovers during a day spent at fair get hypnotized by a fakir. They discover that behind the facade of gliding merry-go-rounds, big wheels and grinning clowns waving to leisurely strolling people there is a dark hidden realm, which foretells destruction and death.
